Building a child’s life skills through Aikido

Talking to some of our parents they have noted that through the practice of Aikido their children have developed many skill that will set them up for life.

  1. Aikido has a structured practice that teaches discipline, lining up to rei (Bow) and following budo etiquette.
  2. A Dojo is a special place where an instructor passes their knowledge onto the students, this encourages junior students to listen 
  3. Aikido is practiced in pairs, the benefits of this type practice is that encourages social skills, such as communication and sharing. 
  4. Tomiki Aikido has a structured curriculum with regular examinations. This allows a child to understand goal setting, something that will help them in adult life.
  5. Tomiki Aikido has a competitive element that teaches team work the joy of winning that creates a good work ethic and the disappointment of not winning ( something that lacking in this age of instant gratification)
  6. Friendship, being a members of a club can build lifelong friendships, as a global martial art this can be extended throughout the world.
  7. There have been some studies showing that children who practice Martial Arts are achieving good grades as school because of the life skill taught.
